Here are a few things that Senior members commented on about the worlds. The rings weren't very well run we had to keep changing rings for events, this happened several times. They had team and individual comps running at the same time made it had to focus as a competitor on 2 events and you couldn't do your best.... in 2011 maybe have female team and male individual at same time not male team and male individual at the same time. Opening ceremony went on too long.... what thoughts do you have for entertainment a few short acts are better than 1 or 2 longer ones (this is from a competitor’s point of view).

There are a lot of people complaining about the weigh in. I think that the 24 hours before the start of Sparring is a fair rule and for those who are having to dehydrate to get there... well that is actually your problem, really what you are doing to get a sparrer who is overweight into the divisions is cheating. Why not start learning how to train and eat properly.

Doug did a good job, much better than your reports from Honduras, but not as good as your previous. However, if you want to provide information on international tournament you will need more people. Perhaps suggesting to the nations that they can have a spot to release information on their teams. Then someone from their group can login and post information in their language. Perhaps Mr Breen could also coordinate a press team who writes press releases for your national papers and also allows international papers to take information from? I think that it is about time that the WCs went to New Zealand and am looking forward to visiting and competing against your team. Good luck to Mr Banicevich and his team.

Hi, i saw all the competitions live via Internet. Wich was really awesome! Well the quality was ok, but could have been better. The screen was a bit too small and they could have shown the medal awards as well. But all in all it was fantastic to get the chance to watch it - i hope the futur WCs will also be covered with live streaming. The only thing that frustrated me was the official homepage (that doesn't have the country ranking on it yet, nor the best competitors ranking etc.) It is/was really a pain to see that they published wrong or misleading results there. But i guess you guys won't have a problem with this, your coverage was awesome. Respect to Doug Hanna who invested that much time in it.

It was great to get it live on the computer - but should have been quality as when we expanded the screen you could barely anything.

Doug did an absolutely amazing job - truely brilliant, but the job of photographer AND reporter, I believe, is too huge for one person, especially now that the juniors and seniors have been combined. Doug deserves a gold medal for outstanding contributions to the NZ public who were not able to be in Canada.

Wonderful to be able to see live coverage the whole weekend, having a disc made of highlights would be great as a keep sake. Definately look at live coverage

Official Results. We didn't have any way of tracking official results and some results were communicated via roumer or you had to be there at the right ring at the right time to know. I've just had a quick look on the official website and couldn't find any results although I believe that they are there somewhere because Mr Breen has analysed country gold medals and NZ's ranking. Not sure how to best publish this information but the event website sounds like a good place to start.

Overall web coverage was brilliant, prehaps in future we could have some video footage of finals, team sparing even open closing ceremonys uploaded, not nessary as they happen but after the day is done. As people watching home hang on every drop of information and photo that come through

I found it hard to tell when NZ was on one of the 7 rings when. Each ring had a display board about 4' off the ground which had the current two competing countries plus the next two (who should be preparing). But to be able to see them you needed to walk around all the rings. It would be much better to have a single screen updated by each of the marshals that was visible by all. A bit like a departures screen at the airport. I missed several events because we couldn't get visability of what was on in what ring.

Accreditation, after two days travel we walked straight into 2 hours of paper work while the entire team waited for this to be completed before we could get to our accommodation. Set times after teams arrive and give them a day before this is done, will eliminate error.

DRAWS- Must be made available a day before comp starts, athletes, coaches and supporters need to know what is happening. we started the pattern comp without draws, unfair for the competitor preparing for event.

Officials - As allways the officials are on show as much as the competitor. Make sure we use the right officials for the event. We need specialist officials running breaking and specialty. Far too many people had different interpretation of rules and format for power breaking and this made for a heated situation which was not needed. Don't hesitate in the removal of a competitor card if they interfere or show disrespect to officials. Use the official protest form that is designed for any situation.

Electronic scoring looked to be working well, a must for all rings? officials using this will better advise.

Medal Ceremony, keep them short and often. At the end of morning/afternoon everyone needed time out but we went into an hour of ceremony, this is when teams leave for rest/lunch/dinner and those that stay are distracted. Maybe run the medal ceremony at the end of each division at least everyone is still in the venue but comp will continue. Will not be a win win situation.

Extra Trainings, Not needed during the days of the tournament. Optional seminars prior to or after the comp. Nothing should be arranged during. Happpy that NZ stayed after the opening ceremony for the promo training and photo. Need to pick the right moment for such things.

Accommodation should be near the venue, great that we could walk within 10 minutes, food was average but coped. All in all a job well done by Canada and those involved.

Weigh in should be at least a day before competition so you have time to get rehydrated, competing before your weigh in is not good! Please keep the opening ceremony short!!

The small things in a tournament really make the difference. From a competitors point of view it is the small things that add up and become stressful and when these things are handled in the best possible way it is all the easier to perform to your potential when the time comes. IDEAS AS THEY COME TO ME...

Release the draw as early as possible - the night before competition is ridiculous. Can you imagine telling a professional athlete that you don't know what day they will be performing their event until the night before?!! Sure, we are not professional, we are not paid... but - don't we want to act professionally at least? We want to raise the standard. Competitors feel devalued when they don't even know the program... How can they plan to be the best they can be (in turn helping the tournament turn out to be the best it can be) if they can't even plan or prepare for events?... This is extremely vital. Expecting athletes to perform to their peak in non-sparring events is ridiculous when they may have to starve / dehydrate themselves in order to make a weigh-in that is scheduled literally at the same time as their non-sparring event...

Weigh-ins can be approached in several ways. One is to have a free weigh in day in which throughout the entire day (before competition!) any athlete can turn up to a room between the hours of say 7am - 7pm and weigh-in. If you don't put the competitors first in these situations, you can't expect them to: a) deliver their best performances or b) wish to return to worlds again. Another way to approach weigh-ins is to only have those competing that day show up to weigh-in. Moving on...

Formalise the medal ceremony so people are not walking around talking etc during it. Have a seperate time set for the medal ceremony so the competitors are willing to sit down and watch rather than trade gifts, chat or sleep due to exhaustion from another day's competition. It's the least competitors can do considering they would like the same respect from other participants. The medal ceremony podium should be placed at the very highest point in the arena - in order to reflect the high value placed on those dedicated enough to sacrifice for their sport / martial art. To place the podium anywhere else is a complete anti-climax.

Don't expect anyone to stay for combined trainings in the middle of comp or after a long day competing. This is something that should be scheduled before or after the tournament. Never during it.

All NZ team members should be taught to stand respectfully during other countries national anthems and not chat / fool around at this time. The correct anthem must be played everytime with all the weight and respect given to each gold medal winning athlete / country - this is the moment they have devoted their life to. Wherever possible - avoid allowing the masters to interrupt competition simply to announce themselves or their associates. How can athletes be expected to compete when their performances can be randomly interrupted during what nay be the most vital of the entire event? Please imagine for a moment - \"Oh you're running the 100m final at the Olympics right now? That can wait - Just let me introduce you to such and such..." - this kind of behaviour really blows my mind. This is not to say I don't think dignitaries and masters should be honoured - but this can be done during opening or closing ceremonies and the like.

Please do not tolerate any bad attitude from coaches or competitors - a few one off displays of lack of self-control simply for the desire to win another medal were disgraceful and I feel these incidents should be approached with a zero-tolerance policy. Have an announcer announce finalists in a strong, charismatic voice before their final performances - they deserve the recognition and this really makes their day. No matter what calls they make - umpires MUST be consistent with their rulings. They MUST be judging from an even playing field for all events. Most of the time this was the case - but even one lapse of bias is too much. Without fairness and an even playing field to begin with, athletes feel as though the entire tournament is devalued; regardless of whether they win or not. Have highlights / results displayed on big screen every now and then to allow everyone to enjoy / catch up with the events of the day. Cheers.

Dislikes - The medals look cheap, the medal ceremony played the wrong anthem too often and there was almost no officials there, judging of Special Techniques and Judging of Power seemed to be badly done, the Mats were to new, the mats didn't feel like safety mats (i.e. they were REALLY hard at the Euros they were much better but still too new and slippery), the venue seemed like a hall at the side.

There was one day that was WAY to long.

Masters telling supporters that they had to move back and sit down, the masters should have been positioned in a better place.

The Food, it is a world champs with Athletes... Likes - The activities including seminars, the opening being short, the Haka from the New Zealand Team, the TV coverage and the live feeds from the mats, that it didn't stop when masters and the like came into the venue. Suggestions - A little bit of Taekwon-Do for the opening, Traditional Sparring, seniors doing patterns or breaking stuff. Something from the Masters would be cool!
