17 Nov 08

Hi Kids,

The camp is officially closed, please do not send any more forms. Having said that, I can squeeze a few more girls in, but you must call me first (07 5714554) to check space availability.

Our confirmed guest instructors for the weekend are:

Mr Luke Thompson
–2008 – 3rd World Cup – Riva Del Garda, Italy
Gold - Pre Arranged Sparring
2007 – 15th World Championships – Quebec, Canada
Gold - Pre Arranged Sparring
Gold - Individual Powerbreaking
Bronze – Team Patterns
Bronze – Team Powerbreaking
2005 14th World Championships – Dortmund, Germany
Silver – Individual Powerbreaking
Bronze – Team Powerbreaking

Mrs Sonya Robinson – Current World Female 35-45 Overall Taekwon-do Champion

Special guest assistant instructors:

Shane Black, Hannah Kendall, and Clare Kendall – all 3 have many national and international medals between them.

  • Don’t forget to come dressed as your favourite superhero (yes, there are prizes)
  • Don’t forget to name all your gear, especially your sparring gear (yes, bring it if you have some)
  • Don’t forget the $100 first prize for our baking contest (You must do it yourself, no parental help!)

We, the organisers, have had to say no to so many kids this year that wanted to come, we probably could have filled the camp all over again. So we would greatly appreciate some feedback from your parents, whether they would be prepared to pay more to have the camp in a larger venue which would allow us to cater for more children. Possibly taking the cost to $40-$50.

Please let us know what you think.

See you all in 2 weeks!

Kids Camp Update 28/10/08

IMPORTANT:  Anyone wanting T Shirt sizes bigger than what is listed on the entry form, just write them in. I can now get adult sizes starting at Small, Medium, Large, X-Large etc. They are NZ sizes, in other words, a medium really does mean medium.

Baking:

I have been told that a certain camp attendee, who shall remain nameless, is attempting to bake a cake to beat all other cakes. This is to win the first prize of $100…that’s right, you can win $100!

Anyway, this masterpiece, so I am reliably informed, contains moving parts! So, if you want to be in with a chance, start planning now!

In the past we have had cakes with pictures on them, someone baked a whole Do-Bok shaped cake once, and I remember a cake that was a sparring ring, complete with chairs and roped off areas! We also had a cake that was in the shape of the camp swimming hole, complete with crocodiles and swimmers!

Costumes:

This is a camp for superheroes after all. If you are brave enough to ‘turn up’ dressed as your favourite superhero, you will receive extra points for your team. And the best dressed will win an extra reward. If you don’t have a favourite superhero, make one up. Judges decision final, no correspondence entered into…in other words, if your friend is brave enough to dress up and earns a prize and you don’t , tuff cookies.

General:

Do not bring any electronic games to the camp, they will be confiscated. Cell phones are allowed although you won’t be able to use them. You can’t anyway with Vodafone as there is no reception there. Telecom reception is also lousy and depends which tree you choose to climb, and how high. So leave them at home!

Gwyn Brown,

Director HG Kids

Hi Kids,

We are now accepting applications for this ‘Do not miss’ event. Every year we have to turn away kids who apply too late, don’t let this be you!

Download the application form here and send in.

The baking contest is on once again, remember there is a prize of $100 cash for the winner. Read your entry form for the details.

This year will see the camp reach 500 students that have attended over the last 6 years. We also have a great selection of international instructors lined up, including some of our very own world champs who will be here to share their knowledge with you.

You will be doing the following:

Sparring, breaking, patterns, specialty, self defence, games, eating weird food, acting on stage, swimming, running, solving riddles...unless your name is Kozmo Pool, in which case you will be cleaning my car, washing my Do Bok, bringing my dinner etc etc..

We look forward to seeing you all once again in the sunny Bay of Plenty, especially our regular attendees, some of which have been to all previous 5 camps!

I will be updating this site regularly with the names of those registered so far. Adults, there is space for 15 helpers, and each year we have to turn more and more of you away. I’m not sure why, for $20 per child for the weekend, I would have thought you would take the opportunity to have a break!

Seriously though, we can’t run the camp without you…so first in, first serve!

Gwyn Brown
