<18 December 2002> TV3 filmed and interviewed the Auckland based team members for a news item that featured on TV3 news Tuesday 17th December. <16 December 2002> Most if the Junior Team arrived back at Auckland International Airport yesterday, welcomed by an enthusiastic group of supporters and family members. "We are the Champions" was played and there were tears all round.
Photos of the arrival (click to enlarge) <13 December 2002 - 7.00pm NZ time> We said goodbye at the airport in SanJuan to the Skinner/Niven/Mills group and the Diggleman group. The rest of the team were making our way slowly towards home with a short five day stop over in Anaheim. We arrived safely at our hotel on Monday night, our hotel is directly across the road from disneyland. Tuesday morning we broke up into three groups and made our way through all the lands which make up disney. After a full 10 hours on our feet riding every ride from Space Mountain through to the teacups we crashed into bed. Day two was another
full day at the new California Park which is a new disney park and included
in our disney tickets. This morning the team hired a bus and went on
our own tour and included Venice Beach, Mans Chinese theatre (where
the handprints, footprints, and stars on the footpath are) In between our travels we struggle to keep Jessica and Harmony out of the shops, the older boys all sport tattoos (false ones for the concerned parents) along with a couple of new piercings for the older ones. We are all struggling with the drastic temperature changes between Puerto Rico and Los Angeles. The average temps in Puerto Rico were around 35-37 degrees and exceedingly hotter inside the tournament venue, nighttime temps were still around the 28 degrees. Los Angeles tems are around 20 degrees during the day and down to 10 at night. Quite a few have runny noses and or colds. We are off to Universal Studios tomorrow with free time on Saturday morning before we make our way to the airport for departure back home in the afternoon. See you on Monday
<12 December 2002 - 4.30pm NZ time> Hi there
Harmony and Jess and most of the females are now earning gold medals in shopping (I'm going to pay for that comment). Team did the haka for Master MacCallum at closing ceremony - brought the house down. Better go - thanks to all for the good wishes on the net. See you soon. Grant
