THREE GOLD, TWO SILVER, FOUR BRONZE

<8 December 2002 - 1.30pm NZ time>

FEMALE TEAM, two more Bronzes
for Patterns, and for Sparring.
MALE TEAM, Silver for Special Techniques.

Update from the Mokis:
I just spoke to Harmony and the boys got silver in team specialty with a play off for first between 5 countries. The selected kick for the play off was overhead kick, 3 countries broke it but fell over, Kyle hit it but didn't break, Czech broke it.

They had a controversial loss to Puerto Rico in team sparring.

Mark lost to Czech in individual sparring with 2 deductions and 7 warnings. Harmony says that theres definitely still some more medals to come...

Update from the Thompsons:

Spoke to Mark, Harmony and Dee Jay

Women team events
Bronze for sparring and patterns
Silver for special

Men team silver for specials beaten by Chez by 1 point
Sparring up against Puerto Rico
1st Dee Jay- won
2nd Tonee- lost
3rd Kyle- drew
4th Phil- won
5th DK- drew
so they put DK up again lost but the crowd was cheering for NZ and Booed when they gave the result that they lost
2 wins 2 draws and 1 lost why have to have another go.?

Mark and sparring 1st round bye, 2nd round USA won, 3rd round Chez- lost. (Apparently the Czech was a 14 year old and...AMAZING).

Team destruction no medal
Tonee missed turning kick
Phil broke knife hand
Mark broke forefist
DK side kick disqualified say he was in wrong stance to begin with.

Nothing for the rest of the tournament but DeeJay said that next Worlds will be the last as they are combining junior and seniors after that.

<8 December 2002 - 10.00am NZ time>

SILVER IN FEMALE TEAM SPECIALTY!!!

It just keeps happening. I am sure there are more to come as the New
Zealand Team puts us well and truly on the map. Czech took the Gold,
so Honza can be happy.

Andrew

and from the meeting...

The Polish Taekwon-Do group made a small presentation regarding the Senior World Championships. Expecting 60 - 70 countries with 33 coming from Europe. Patron of the tournament is the President of the Polish Republic.

Ed nb: Greg Skinner has been relentlessly videotaping as much of every NZ competition as he can from start to finish - has made a personal dent in Puerto Rico's stocks of videotape and loaded down their power grid charging batteries :)

We will put up on the website a bunch of shots and selected vid clips when they return. Something to look forward to!

<7 December 2002 - 5.30pm NZ time>

Hi there

Just some more detail on Dan Kerr's victory in power. It was highly dramatic. There were 30 in the division, and Daniel was third last to do his breaks. A Spanish competitor had broken every board except one, so if Dan was to take the lead he had to fully complete every single break. The breaks were: Punch 3 boards, Knifehand 4 boards, Side Kick 5 boards, Turning Kick 4 boards. Wooden boards. Dan duely smashed the whole lot and took the lead, which sent the kiwis berserk. However the very next competitor from Czech Rep equalled Dan, which forced a playoff.

The tie break technique chosen by the officials was a 6 board side kick. Dan went first and missed (0 points). All the Czech had to do was crack a board and the gold was his HOWEVER the Czech then missed and got 0 points. So back they went to 5 board side kick to try and break the deadlock. Dan went first and smashed the whole lot. The Czech then did the same. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster....

The officials then decided that side kick wasn't going to break the deadlock, so they decided to move to a 4 board knifehand. Dan went first again, and the 4 boards didn;t stand a chance (full points to Dan). Pressure then back on the Czech.

He hit the boards hard and they didn't break, however the officials decided that the boards had slid out of the holder and decided he could have another go (much to NZ's dismay). The Czech second attempt failed to even break a board. Gold to Dan and 30 kiwis go berserk.

Team events tomorrow. We ain't finished with the medals yet......kia ora

THREE GOLD AND TWO BRONZE IN THREE DAYS!

Dan Kerr - Gold in power destructions.
Our "strong Southern Man" powered his way through to our third gold.
After a playoff against the Czech competitor, Dan's hand technique won the day.

The team has now medalled in all disciplines - Sparring, Special Technique,  Patterns and Power Test.

Team events tomorrow - and we're looking good to go!!

Ed nb: I'm afraid our guys and girls have been flat out dawn to dark - we haven't been sent any information on other Teams' progress medal-wise, other than a hint that our Australian cousins are yet to medal.

Hi there

Nikki got Bronze for specialty, she was awesome...

Dan sparred a Australia and won followed by a controversial loss to Czech. Phillip sparred Puerto Rico he was awesome, we are still hearing comments but another controversial decision saw Puerto Rico win, how we will never know.

Harmony was up against Canada for patterns she was amazing I have never seen such control and precision but unfortunately for us Canada won.

<6 December 2002 - 7.30am NZ time>

Hi all...

We have had such an exciting day and it is only half-way through.

Kyle sparring against Slovenia in the heavy weight division. The Slovenian
was left legged so Kyle found him challenging to spar. Kyle produced some awesome jumping back kicks, there can't have been much in the points but Slovenia Won.

1st Dan patterns
- Nicole Vs Canada, Nicoles Patterns were really crisp but Canada won
- Rose Vs Argentina, This was a tough one for the judges to score, Argentina have very nice patterns, but Rose matched them. Argentina won
- Anna Vs Czech Republic, Anna displayed nice patterns but Czech won.

Niki for specialty is sitting on 3 points, she got 1 point for the flying front kick & 2 for the flying turning. She then went on to power and is sitting on 12 points with a successful knifehand & turning kick. More competitors to come after lunch so our fingers are crossed for her.

Robert showed the Puerto Rican some awesome jumping punches but the Puerto Rican came back with jumping kicks. Puerto Rico won

Sam had one of the hardest sparring matches of his life, he drew Poland. The Polish are hard and fast, but Sam did really well. Poland won

Dan T was against USA, Dan was awesome and the minutes seemed like hours but USA won

Tonee had another hard draw, he was up against greenland's one and only competitor and he was good. Tonee did great but Greenland won.

Still to come Dan K & Phillip!!!!!!

PS - Message for Mark from Canada:
Canada are doing really well... I know for sure that in 2nd dan patterns they took 1st 2nd & 3rd

<5 December 2002 - 4.30pm NZ time>

Wow, awesome is the best way to explain it. Well done to the team.

The best teams seem to be the Czech, Polish, Argentina and New Zealand.

Watching the New Zealand flag being raised and hearing the national anthem had the entire team with hand on heart (yes I mean literally). It was awesome. Nice to know that of all the medals handed out today there was only one anthem played twice. I have to admit that I was feeling the emotion, the team is buzzing and there could be more to
come!

Honza, message was passed on. Petra got Silver, but I thought she deserved gold. She did awesome and you would be proud of her.

You will hear from one of us soon.

<5 December 2002 - 3.00pm NZ time>

Harmony Moki has a Bronze Medal in sparring!

Greg reports that tommorow Danier Kerr is up against Australia, Sam Skinner - Poland, Robert Buddle - Puerto Rico and Tonee Francis against Greenland. We think Dan Thompson is up against USA.

<5 December 2002 - 11.00am NZ time>

Kyle got GOLD for Specialty.... well over 30 competitors and they seemed to just keep coming. But Kyle was by far the best of the best taking out the GOLD with 8 points, the next closest to him was 6.

Harmony got an awesome atmosphere with the guys doing the Haka and the crowd cheering.... But the USA proved to be too much...

Keep an eye out for more action tomorrow. Opening ceremony tonight.

<5 December 2002 - 7.30am NZ time>

WE HAVE GOLD!

Well first day of competition saw Jess up 1st agains Chezch. She put up a great fight, but lost.

Next we had Regan in 1st Dan Patterns against USA. Regan did the best patterns we have ever seen him do, sadly it wasnt enough to go through to the next round.

Kyle up for speciality. Each competitor gets 2 attempts at all 5 and they take the best out of the 2. Kyle absolutely blitzed 4 of the 5 so far he is leading in points and there has been over 20 with more to come after lunch.

Rose up next against USA, Rose won going through to the next round against Argentina... she showed heaps of spirit and the match was so close, but Argentina won.

Mark up next for 3rd Dan patterns.... YES we have a GOLD!!!!!!!
