National Tournament 2001 Information
Host Region - Counties Manukau

This year's Nationals are to be held at the massive new Gymsport & Recreation Centre in Papakura. This $9 Million Multi Sports Centre houses indoor netball courts, medical centre, weight training and rehab facilities.

The tournament will be held on the sprung floor area of the gymnastics gym, with tiered seating for spectators and plenty of standing room viewing from above. We hope you will enjoy this year's Nationals and we look forward to hosting all you TKD members from outside of Auckland.

OFFICIALS:
Friday night: There will be umpires meetings for all. A discount will be offered to regions that supply extra umpires. Each region should look at providing the following:  1 umpires to 10 participating students. Over and above this you will qualify for one free entry into an event for each umpire outside this ratio. We will be making contact with all people on the database at a later date to confirm their availability.

COMPETITION:
Regional coaches please read the tournament regulations.
To enable the sparring to keep moving please ensure that all male participating students have their groin guards inside the Do Bok. Do not share these, drink bottles or mouth guards, as it may be a health hazard. All headgear will be washed in between the fights; we will be providing people to do this.

ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT:
Here is a list of motels that are available within the immediate area of the tournament. All are located along the main road. They have been pencilled booked for the weekend but they will require definite bookings approximately 2-3 months before the tournament.

The region will be providing transport from the airport and railway stations for teams who require it. (We will need to know this well in advance). The bus will also be available to collect teams from their motels (providing the motel is on the main route) in the mornings before the tournament, return them and collected them for the dinner (if required, as there are facilities at the gym to shower and change). Return them to take them back to the hotels Saturday night and to the airport or train station on Sunday after the prize giving.

Things to remember when making your bookings:

The closest train station is Papakura, 10 minutes away from venues

We are planning on the event to finish approximately 4.00 PM on Sunday. Allow for a 1/2 hour drive to the airport when making your bookings.

The motels above are all along the main bus route, which is the Great South Road, and are all within 15 minutes of the venue.

There is late night shopping in Papakura Township on Friday night and also have a variety of takeaway facilities in the area.

If you are wanting to take the children/ team out on Friday night then there are the movies and Rainbows End Adventure Park at Manukau about 20 minutes away. The Papakura Wave pool is located within 15 minutes from most motels and McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut are within walking distance of motels.

We will be keeping all regions informed on a regular basis so that you know what is happening well in advance.

If you have any question at this stage regarding any of the information you may contact Julie Thompson at jldst@ihug.co.nz, Home phone number 09-2359240.
