National Tournament 2001 Information

This year's Nationals are to be held at the massive new
Gymsport & Recreation Centre in Papakura. This $9 Million Multi Sports
Centre houses indoor netball courts, medical centre, weight training and
rehab facilities.
The tournament will be held on the sprung floor area of the gymnastics
gym, with tiered seating for spectators and plenty of standing room viewing
from above. We hope you will enjoy this year's Nationals and we look forward
to hosting all you TKD members from outside of Auckland.

UPDATE (23 July 2001):
WEIGH-IN
Weigh-in for competitors is Friday night from 7.30 - 9.30pm at the Gymsport
& Recreation Centre. Those who can not make weigh-in that night can
do so at 7.30am Saturday - See Julie Thompson.
PASSES
Team Managers will be handed Team and Umpires Passes at the meeting on
Friday night, 7.30pm. Everyone must have a pass in order to get in the
Stadium on Saturday and Sunday without being charged the entry fee.
Entry fee to watch the ITFNZ 2001 Nationals for the entire weekend is
$5 for individuals or $10 per family.
UMPIRES MEETING
It is stressed that all Umpires should attend the meeting on Friday night,
as important information and training for the weekend will take place.
Umpires must also bring the correct uniform to judge at the Nationals
(navy blue trousers, white shirt and navy tie, in accordance with the
ITFNZ regulations).
DINNER
Please note the Dinner is open to anyone to attend, not just team members.

Tickets purchased on the day will be $30/$20.
DATES: Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July 2001 (an early start)
VENUES: Tournament to be held in the Gymsport & Recreation Centre,
Porchester Road, Papakura. The gym is located 5 minutes off the motorway,
close the Takanini racing track.
Dinner and dance to be held at the Papakura Netball Centre, Walters Road,
Papakura. Adjacent to the gym. Dinner is a smorgasbord with a DJ. Approximate
cost for dinner are: - $25.00 per adult, $15.00 children 3-13 years, Children
under 3 years free.
Tickets must be ordered and paid for before the tournament date, to enable
us to confirm with the caterers for the numbers. The Netball Centre has
bar facilities on site. People over the age of 18 years may purchase alcohol.
Your students may be asked to provide ID, so please make them aware of
this, to avoid any disappointments.
Tee shirts, sweatshirt and hats will be available for order prior to
the tournament date. Prices to be confirmed. We will have security patrolling
the area during the evening.
COST OF EVENTS:
1 Event - $15.00, 2 Events - $25.00, 3 Events - $40.00, 4 Events - $50.00
OFFICIALS:
Friday night: There will be umpires meetings for all. A discount
will be offered to regions that supply extra umpires. Each region
should look at providing the following: 1 umpires to 10 participating
students. Over and above this you will qualify for one free entry into
an event for each umpire outside this ratio. We will be making contact
with all people on the database at a later date to confirm their availability.
COMPETITION:
Regional coaches please read the tournament regulations.
To enable the sparring to keep moving please ensure that all male participating
students have their groin guards inside the Do Bok. Do not share these,
drink bottles or mouth guards, as it may be a health hazard. All
headgear will be washed in between the fights; we will be providing people
to do this.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORT:
Here is a list of motels that are available within the immediate area
of the tournament. All are located along the main road. They have been
pencilled booked for the weekend but they will require definite bookings
approximately 2-3 months before the tournament.
The region will be providing transport from the airport and railway stations
for teams who require it. (We will need to know this well in advance).
The bus will also be available to collect teams from their motels (providing
the motel is on the main route) in the mornings before the tournament,
return them and collected them for the dinner (if required, as there are
facilities at the gym to shower and change). Return them to take them
back to the hotels Saturday night and to the airport or train station
on Sunday after the prize giving.
Things to remember when making your bookings:
The closest train station is Papakura, 10 minutes away from venues
We are planning on the event to finish approximately 4.00 PM on Sunday.
Allow for a 1/2 hour drive to the airport when making your bookings.
The motels above are all along the main bus route, which is the Great
South Road, and are all within 15 minutes of the venue.
There is late night shopping in Papakura Township on Friday night and
also have a variety of takeaway facilities in the area.
If you are wanting to take the children/ team out on Friday night then
there are the movies and Rainbows End Adventure Park at Manukau about
20 minutes away. The Papakura Wave pool is located within 15 minutes from
most motels and McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut are within walking
distance of motels.
We will be keeping all regions informed on a regular basis so that you
know what is happening well in advance.
