The Advisory Panel look after the ‘Do’ and other ‘non business’ aspects of Taekwon-Do within International Taekwon-Do. The Advisory Panel is effectively the custodian or guardian and ‘voice’ for the art – headed by the most senior Masters within the organisation who are considered the experts in ITF Taekwon-Do and worthy of this portfolio.

The Advisory Panel also acts as Advisor or Consultant to the International Taekwon-Do Board in matters related to the art. The Advisory Panel would also have a close working relationship with the CEO (and Operations Executive) who collectively would be the conduit between the members and the Board on an operational level.

Purpose and Function of the Advisory Panel

The purpose and function of the Advisory Panel is to:

  • Act as custodian and guardian of the art (including Instructors) within International Taekwon-Do and act in the best interest of the art.
  • Preserve the art of ITF Taekwon-Do as founded by the late General Choi Hong Hi - including the ‘Do’ (philosophy).
  • Oversee and supervise the various Advisor Groups that fall under the Advisory Panel’s jurisdiction and offer directives in terms of a framework and guidance where appropriate in consultation with the respective Advisor Group.
  • Act in the capacity of Advisor or Consultant to the Board, CEO and Operations Executive in matters related to either the art of Taekwon-Do or the members (including Instructors).
  • Offer guidance and recommendation to the Board, CEO and Operations Executive as and when required.
  • Initiate development plans in regards to art of Taekwon-Do and membership experience in conjunction with the various Advisor Groups which fall under the Advisory Panel.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality assurance of the art and provide good level of service to the membership.
  • Ensure that the respective Advisor Group carry out their designated function within the framework provided.
  • Oversee the functioning, management and operation of each Advisor Group.
  • The Advisory Panel from time to time may be asked to carry out special projects at the request of the Board.
  • The Advisory Panel would maintain close relations with Board, CEO and Operations Executive in Board and operational matters and offer recommendation and guidance if and when required or when deemed necessary.

The Advisory Panel

The Advisory Panel will comprise of the most senior practitioners of ITF Taekwon-Do who hold the rank and title of Master. The panel would have three Masters, one of whom would be chosen as the chairperson - which would be on a two year rotational term.

Additional members for the Advisory Panel may be chosen from other Masters in rank order or similar. However, it is envisaged that this would be reviewed on an annual basis to determine the need for additional members or retain the status quo – this would be at the discretion of the Advisory Panel.

The ‘term in office’ for members on the Advisory Panel is ‘open ended’ and the positions are ‘non votable’. Any member of the panel can chose to resign or step down by mutual agreement, however, only if a suitable replacement is sought and without compromising the day to day function of the Advisory Panel.
