The Norman Ng Trophy (Est. 2021)
Mr Ng of course is one of the Pioneers of Taekwon-Do in New Zealand and opened our first club back in 1970. He remains an enthusiastic supporter of our organisation. Along with the Trophy, Mr Ng has donated shares in a New Zealand Public Company, with a request that the dividends be paid to the new recipient each year. The current ITFNZ awards structure acknowledges achievements in the last 12 months, whereas this award takes a longer term view to a nominee’s dedication. It is a reflection on how they practice the ‘Do’ in their community. |

Grand Master Evan Davidson | 1 September 2024 | GM Davidson is one of the pioneers of Taekwon-Do in New Zealand having started the Mirimar club in 1975. He is one of our most respected instructors, both locally and internationally. |
Mrs Shirley Pygott | 24 August 2025 | Mrs Pygott began her Taekwon-Do journey in October 1985 at the Pakuranga Club under the instruction of Grand Master Rounthwaite. In 1991, after moving to the Hibiscus Coast, she and her husband Vince established a new club there. From that point on, Shirley became the driving force behind the administration of all the subsequent clubs they founded and helped with, including Red Beach, Long Bay, Glenfield, Rosmini, Stanmore Bay, Warkworth, and Whangaparaoa. Her most notable achievement is as the lead developer of the Mini-Kids programme, which has become one of ITFNZ’s greatest successes. Thanks to her vision and hard work, many clubs across the country now enjoy thriving memberships of young children. Beyond administration, she has also served on the Board, organised countless events including kids’ camps and tournaments, and managed both regional and national teams. Mrs Pygott is one of our hardest working and most dedicated members. Although she often prefers to fly under the radar, her contributions have been nothing short of vital. Quite simply, without her, many of us would be lost. |
For at least 50 years of training in ITF Taekwon-Do. New award started 2025.
ITFNZ has recognised the efforts of volunteers over many years. We are in a unique position where the early pioneers of the Art in New Zealand are still involved. This was recognised through the establishment of the 50-Year Service Award which were presented for the first time, by Norman Ng. Recipients were Grand Master Evan Davidson, Grand Master Paul McPhail and Mr Michael Lowe (absent). |
