THE NEiTA FOUNDATION was formed in 1994 by the Australian Scholarships Group to conduct a program of National Awards honouring exemplary teachers in Australian and New Zealand schools and early childhood centres. The awards promote public recognition of the teaching profession and specifically those teachers who have demonstrated excellence and commitment in their work.

The program calls on individual parents, parent organisations, boards of trustees, management committees, secondary student councils and community organisations, to identify teachers and leaders who are an inspiration to their students, to their peers and to their communities.
